The Celtic Challenge welcomes Robbie Fergusson as Glasgow Warriors Head Coach ahead of 2026/27 season.
Glasgow Warriors have confirmed the appointment of Robbie Fergusson as Women’s Head Coach, adding significant coaching experience to Glasgow Warriors ahead of the 2026/27 Celtic Challenge season.
Fergusson’s arrival comes at a pivotal moment for the competition, with Glasgow Warriors having added nine new players to the squad earlier this summer. His appointment strengthens the calibre of coaching across the Celtic Challenge as the competition continues to build on its cross-border ambitions for Welsh, Irish and Scottish women’s rugby.
Former Glasgow Warriors centre Fergusson joins Scotstoun from his coaching role with Hong Kong China 7s, having previously gained experience within Team GB’s women’s 7s set-up. He will take up his Celtic Challenge duties once his commitments in Hong Kong conclude.
Beyond his 7s coaching background, Fergusson served as assistant coach at hometown club Ayr RFC, where he had played, before moving into the Director of Rugby role at Ayr RFC & Ayrshire Bulls. There, he held responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of the rugby department, aligning coaching philosophy, player development and performance culture across senior and pathway programmes; experience that will feed directly into his new Celtic Challenge role.
Fergusson also brings an accomplished playing career to the role, having represented both Scotland 7s and Great Britain 7s, competing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 and two Commonwealth Games, before retiring in the summer of 2024. He earned 50 HSBC World Sevens Series caps, including two years captaining Great Britain on the HSBC SVNS Series between 2022 and 2024.
Earlier in his career, Fergusson represented Scotland at age grade level through to U20s, featuring at the Junior World Championships in 2012 and 2013, where Scotland finished ninth and tenth respectively. His club career included a domestic double with Ayr in 2013; a Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis the following year, aged just 20, then put his career on pause while he focused on recovery.
Following a full recovery, Fergusson signed with Glasgow Warriors, making his professional debut in 2015. A spell with London Scottish followed, before he returned to Scotstoun.
Alongside his Celtic Challenge role with Glasgow Warriors, Fergusson will support Scotland Women as assistant coach for the WXV Global Series.
