Clovers 31-7 Edinburgh Rugby

Despite the result, Claire Cruikshank’s side can return to Scotland with their heads held high following a spirited second-half resurgence that saw them dominate large spells of territory and possession.
The hosts ignited the scoreboard after 13 minutes of play. Following a period of tight handling near the Edinburgh defensive line, the ball was offloaded to Aoife Corey, who found a gap and scampered in from 30 metres out.
While Edinburgh’s goal-line defence was often heroic, the Clovers’ pressure eventually told again as Jemima Adams Verling powered over from close range to extend the lead.
The Irish side further asserted their authority through winger Chisom Ugwueru, who “put on the burners” to finish a clinical move in the corner.
Shortly before the interval, Ellie O’Sullivan Sexton executed a pinpoint cross-field kick to find Ugwueru once more; the winger showcased tidy footwork to stay in-bounds and secure her brace, leaving Edinburgh facing a 24-0 deficit at the break.

The second half, however, belonged to the visitors’ grit. Edinburgh never stopped fighting and were desperately unlucky not to close the gap on several occasions.
Replacement Lisa Brown nearly notched an incredible solo effort, embarking on a determined 40-metre scramble for the line, only to be agonisingly held up by the Clovers’ defence.
The visitors finally earned the reward their defensive shift deserved when replacement Hannah McMahon wrestled over the line, aided by the sheer power of her pack.
Although Beth Buttimer added a final score for the hosts to add some gloss to the final tally, Edinburgh can leave the Dexcom Stadium proud of a resilient second-half performance that asked serious questions of their opponents.

Brython Thunder 14-0 Wolfhounds

Brython Thunder stunned reigning champions and league leaders Wolfhounds, claiming a superb 14-0 win in Round 8 of the Celtic Challenge at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday afternoon.
The Welsh side pulled off one of the shocks of the Celtic Challenge in beating an Irish side that has dominated the tournament since its inception.
Thunder’s victory, their third in a row, keeps them in the hunt for a play-off place with two games of the league campaign to play.
Brython, well beaten by Wolfhounds earlier in the competition, were a different team this time around with full-back Amy Williams and centre Savannah Picton-Powell crossing for the vital tries to complete a well deserved victory.
The Welsh side adapted and played the torrential conditions better than the visitors and were well worth their 14-0 lead at half-time with scrum-half Seren Lockwood and fly-half Hanna Marshall showing real maturity through an excellent kicking game to keep the champions under pressure.

Despite the downpours, Thunder started brightly with No. 8 Jorja Aiono and Lockwood combining to break the Irish side’s defence.
The visitors held firm but it was an early sign of the home side’s intent.
Full-back Williams crossed for a superb counter-attack try after the Welsh side’s handling flat-footed the Irish side. Marshall added the conversion to make it 7-0 to Thunder midway through the first half.
Picton-Powell then extended the home side’s lead with a well worked try to crash in under the posts. Marshall added the extras to make it 14-0 at half-time.
After the break, the conditions did play a part, but Thunder’s resilience and desire to get the job done kept the champions scoreless in a frantic finale.

The clash was played in torrential conditions but the Warriors adapted to them better than their hosts but Lightning did manage a losing bonus-point. They face reigning champions Wolfhounds and Welsh rivals Brython Thunder in their final regular season games.
The Lightning have been a top half of the table team for most of the Celtic Challenge campaign but have yet to secure a semi-final spot.

The Lightning were forced to make a late change before kick off with Thomas-Bradley a late replacement for Evie Hill at prop.
The home side opened the scoring after a superb break by lock Alaw Pyrs and Thomas Bradley crashed over from short-range. Fly half Carys Hughes added the conversion to make it 7-0 after seven minutes.
The Warriors attacked from the re-start but the home side’s defence held firm and held the ball up over the line.
Both sides kept the ball in hand as the heavens opened midway through the first half and Warriors came close to a try but last ditch defence kept them at bay.
Flanker Anwen Owen was yellow carded for a professional foul and Glasgow’s try came just before half-time when hooker Aicha Sutcliffe barged her way over from short-range. Full back Mullie Warren landed the conversion for the Scots to make it 7-7 and all square at half-time.

After the break, Glasgow took the lead straight after half-time when wing Emily Norval crashed in over at the corner to make it 12-7.
Replacement Gwennan Hopkins made an impact when she came off the bench and the home side created enough opportunities but could not finish them.
Tempers did boil over with a bout of fisticuffs when prop Cerys Cuming and lock Holland Bogan were yellow carded and both sides were down to 14 players.
Full back Warren added a late penalty to stretch Glasgow’s lead to 15-7 and lock Pearce set up a nervous finale with her try but the Warriors held out for the victory.
